Image File Formats

 


Gif: an image encoded in graphics interchange format (GIF),which contains a number of images or frames in a single file and is described by its own graphic control extension. The frames are presented in a specific order in order to convey animation. Gifs are mainly used to send funny meme animations thru text or email


RAW: "raw" files are files/images that are not edited. Raw files are named so because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed or edited with a bitmap graphics editor. RAW files contain uncompressed and unprocessed image data, which allows  photographers to capture practically every detail they see in their viewfinder.


JPG : stands for joint photograph Experts Group. This is one of the most widely used formats online, typically for photos, email graphics and large web images like banner ads. The small file size of JPG images allows storing of thousands of images in small memory space. PNG: is  a file format used for lossless image compression. PNG has almost entirely replaced the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) that was widely used in the past.  stands for portable network graphics.  PNG file format is widely used on websites to display high-quality digital images.
